Panama City, Panama
We got the first house-sitting opportunity we applied for and WE’RE GOING TO ECUADOR FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!! We’re beyond excited for the sit itself, as well as for having a home base for awhile. For those who don’t know, house-sitting is when you invite someone to stay at your home while you’re gone and take care of your pets, garden, etc. There are sites (like Trusted Housesitters that we signed up with) where you can list your house for sitting or put up a profile of yourselves as potential sitters. Sort of a match.com for house sitting! A big, big thank you to cousin Mike for doing our video for us – seeing our garden was a large part of why we got this interview!
Anyway, we found this WONDERFUL listing to take care of a home and two dogs in Cuenca, Ecuador for 3+ weeks starting in mid-December. We spoke with Holly and Brian, Canadian ex-pats, over Skype and made a great connection…and they chose us that night! No, Ecuador wasn’t on our original itinerary, but that’s one of the joys of this whole trip – being open to changing for whatever comes along. First, though, 10 glorious days here in Panama!
So fun to hear of your adventures as they unfold. Hugs to you both!!
Thanks Nan!
I dunno guys, these house-sitting deals can be scary:

Luckily we will have an English Bull Terrier to protect us!! We can’t wait to meet Doyle the Dog in person. Wooof!
Hope you will be in the mountains. The coast is hot and sticky when it’s not hot and sticky. If you are going thru Guayaquil, take care. It’s not the nicest of places. Do not get out of the safe areas. Maybe the folks you are house sitting for (yea!) can advise you. Have great visit to Equador.
Yes, we will be nice and cool in the mountains at 8,500 feet – after Panama and Drake we have had our fill of hot-and-humid! Thanks for the warning as we do fly into Guayaquil. Haven’t researched it yet, and we’ll be there a day or so at most, but we’ll definitely take care.
Enjoy Panama and Ecuador! Try to get yourselves acclimated, Cuenca is about 8,000 feet above sea level.
Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate!
Wow…Ecuador. How exciting. Can’t wait to hear all about it! That may be our next trip:)
Yep, we’re really looking forward to it! Just talked a Belgian gentleman today who told us how much he loved Ecuador and the Galapagos in particular, so we might have to see if we can see them cheaply. Apparently we might be able to just show up and ask a boat captain if they have room for last-minute arrivals and get a good deal! Here’s hoping!
