Hummingbirds – a quick post

November 29, 2014 Palmar Norte, Costa Rica – Hummingbirds – A quick post

Back in Monteverde we had the chance to drop in on a hummingbird garden. To my surprise it wasn’t an enclosed area. Instead, an area stocked full of pretty plants and loads of hummingbird feeders brought them by the dozens! The results were amazing. The Hummmmm of the wings buzzed by our ears as the nearly fearless birds made their way from feeder to feeder. What surprised me most were just how many different kinds were in one place!

Note: I swear there were many different kinds of hummingbirds  but it appears we only got photos of a few kinds. The others zipped around too fast for the likes of us!

Excuse me. Waiter! I think my flower is dirty.

Vivid blue contrasts so nicely with lemon yellow and red.

Having that hooked beak must be convenient for certain flower types…or he hummed into one too many glass doors…

Drink up!

Amazing, indeed! I couldn’t believe how close they got to us. Just a wonderful experience.

Beautiful birds indeed – and some great pictures of them! I’ve had some real difficulty taking shots of hummingbirds in flight, but yours came out quite well. Nicely done!

Thanks! We bought a brand new point and shoot camera right before we left – the smallest one with the longest zoom that I could find. It’s the Sony WX350 and we’ve been really happy with it so far! We do wish it had a better macro setting for close-ups, but I’ve been fine without it – I think Anner misses it a bit more.
