The Wearable Art Creations Continue!

The third World of Wearable Art (WOW) party just happened and once again there were some super-creative designs. I like to think Anner and I were the stars, of course. 🙂

After trying out keyboard keys, playing cards, and pencils in our previous designs, this time it was puzzle pieces which struck our fancies.

“Missing A Piece Of My Heart”

Mine was made with three “layers” of puzzle pieces. If you look closely, you can also see the VOTE pin I made out of travel Scrabble tiles. Made one for Anner, too, which you can just see peaking out from under her scarf…not that you’d even notice as you’ll be too impressed by her puzzle crown with puzzle piece “jewels”.

“Puzzling It Out” Crown

We definitely like making the big, dramatic designs. When else do you get to create and wear something so hugely showy and have folks applaud you for it? Thanks fellow makers!

Obviously we weren’t the only wonderful designers at the party. Among other things, this session showcased a couple of truly impressive beaders. Beading is definitely NOT something I have the patience for, but take a look at these.

Wrist FULL of beaded bracelets…

Just gorgeous!

Look at the detail – this is the reverse of the piece above.

Blows me away!

A couple of the designs worked with more non-traditional elements. Take this sash made from syringes:

She’s reusing pieces from a nose medicine she has to take every day. Hooray for upcycling!

The red thread really…err…ties everything together.

And then there were these unbelievable pendants made from book paper by our host Cynthia Toops’ sister, Janet.

Hand-cut book page pendants.

She cuts out each page, one by one, glues the edges a la bookbinding then carefully folds them around and glues them to a paper tube making a bead. Such delicacy! You can even riffle the pages! Very, very carefully…

And, of course, we’d never miss adding photos of Cynthia’s work! Her creativity truly is boundless. This time she fabricated a fabulous yarn poof coat!

Yarn poofs added to a denim jacket. The poofs made it pretty heavy so she decided against fully covering the coat or she might not have been able to wear it!

You can only see a bit of it, but Cynthia also created a wonderful dress using scraps of old Indian fabrics – not from saris, but other Indian pieces.

The next party is in April. Wonder what we should work with next? Any suggestions?

Puzzle people in the house!!!

You keep being creative and run with some amazing folks. Wish I had that ability. To get you started, I have a lot of small fabric scraps. But I’m sure you will come up with something amazing. I don’t expect you to be puzzled long.
