<This is a breakdown of the money we spent exclusively in Tanzania. This Post will give you the broader look at how we planned, saved, etc. for the trip in general.>

 

INDEPENDENT TRAVEL – May 6, May 18 – June 19

Total Cost:              $3338.83

Nights in Country:  34

Cost/Day:                $98.20

Exchange Rate:      1920 Tanzanian shillings = $1 (all amounts are in USD)

SAFARI* – May 7-17

Total Cost:             $8145.21

Nights in Country:  11

Cost/Day:               $740.47

 

TOTAL TRAVEL (independent + safari) – May 6 – June 19

Total Cost:              $11,539.25

Nights in Country:  45

Cost/Day:                $256.43

 

Transportation – We are tracking inter-country transportation separately. In the case of Tanzania, we flew from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Dar es Salaam on Qatar Airlines for $2610.80. One domestic flight from Dar to Arusha, the starting point of our safari, IS included in transportation above. $200 in entry visa costs for Americans IS included above.

Entertainment – Independent travel only. The majority included a visit to Saadani National Park and payments to two guides. Having a guide we clicked with (our 2nd one) was WELL worth it!

Gear – Cost of a mobile phone and sim card.

Postage – Includes the cost of shipping home Makonde wood carvings and cool African fabrics we purchased during independent travel.

Safari – Includes safari fee, tips to guides, wood carving lesson with Makonde tribe and incidental expenses.
