What’s in a name? – Cuenca, Ecuador

One of the fun things about exploring a non-English speaking town is seeing all the business names. Perhaps you’ll recognize a few of these?

Love the Apple symbol right next to the name!

For our Microsoftie friends. Love the Apple and Linux symbols right next to the name!

It may not be Red Lobster, but it's close!

Oh so close...

    Hi A&A,

Good post! Cuenca appears prosperous and surprisingly tidy. Do you know what industries (or otherwise) drive the economy?

Yep, it’s definitely the cleanest city we’ve been in! Trash collection is actually 3x week AND they collect recycling! In terms of industry, we’re not 100% sure for the city itself (aside from weaving Panama hats!), though it has a big university and many medical centers, but Ecuador in general has flowers, oil, seafood and bananas as some of it’s biggest products. They are actually the biggest flower exporter in the world, I believe!
