4/11/2016 Update!!!

The folks at Darn Tough, sockmakers extraordinaire, responded to my letter! It’s below if you haven’t already read it. I like a company that puts in the effort to respond with a real person who obviously read my letter, not just send an auto-response. Don’t think I need to send my socks back to them just yet, as they are definitely still wearable even after 15 months, but sure nice to know I can if desired. Can you imagine that? Sending socks back because they wore out. Amazing. Makes me even happier to be a Darn Tough supporter!

Hi Aaron,

We are glad you are a convert and thrilled you are on board with us.  Thank you for sharing your adventures traveling in Darn Tough Vermont socks  and for expressing what a “quality product” DT socks are.

Our socks are guaranteed to be the most comfortable, durable and best fitting sock you can buy and you said it here.  When you buy our socks, you buy us.

And, can you believe we have a life-time guarantee?

Speaking of life-time guarantee, when and if your DT socks feel uncomfortable, threadbare or have a hole, do send them into us for replacement if you so choose.

Our warranty is very simple.  Just go to the following link and fill out the one form and send the worn out socks in with that one form to us for replacements.

We are very serious about our socks.  We have a terrific team that strives to exceed your goals and they will continue to do so right here in this little town of Northfield, Vermont in the USA.

Thank you for your continued support.  Have a wonderful spring and summer.

All the best,

Andrea Donahue-Smith

As we’re starting to catch up on all the blog entries we’ve been imagining for months and months, we want to talk about some of the gear we brought with us. I know how helpful it was for me to find out what earlier travelers took and recommended (or hated!) on their journeys, so hopefully we’ll be able to do the same for other folks. I have to hand out my first “Loved It” award to the socks made by Darn Tough, right here in the US of A. Vermont, to be exact. Here’s a letter I sent thanking them for such a quality product. They made my life SO much happier on the road!

————————————————-

Hi Darn Tough-ers,
My wife and I just returned from a 15 month trip around the world and I’m pleased to say that my first ever Darn Tough socks come with us all the way! Planning our trip back in 2014, I read a lot about different clothing options and decided it was time to try some wool socks for our travels. I was a bit leery, always having worn Thorlos and never testing out wool, but decided to give it a shot with a pair of your Hiker Micro Crew Cushions from REI. I also got a pair of wool FITS to try at the same time as well as bringing a pair of Thorlos. Off we headed to Central and South America, Africa, Asia and Europe – 18 countries in all. An amazing, amazing experience.

How’d things go? Well, I tossed the Thorlos within the first few weeks – they just didn’t compare to the wicking and non-smell factors of the woolies. After awhile the FITS pair got a hole in one toe. The Darn Tough? They lived up to their name! Not a single issue! When I finally had a chance to get a re-supply after 6 months, the only thing I ordered was another pair of Darn Toughs! They made it through streams in Patagonia, mountains in Mongolia and Swedish frosts. Now I’m back in Seattle and STILL wearing them…though I have to admit that after 15 months they are starting to wear thin and getting smelly much faster. Nary a hole, though – so well made! I plan on getting replacements soon as I don’t think I can live without them again!

So, thank you for making such a quality product and you’ve made a convert, as well as an avid promoter, here in Washington.
Cheers,
Aaron Barr, explorer and travel blogger (www.NoMapRequired.com)

Great letter. I have a circulation problem in my feet (Raynaud’s syndrome, if anyone cares). I’ve been wearing nothing but Smart a Wool socks since moving to the NW. Heavier ones in the winter; lighter weight in the summer. They are great, but after reading your letter, I’ll have to give Darn Tough a try! Thanks.

Can’t say how they’ll do for circulation as compared to, say, compression socks, but they kept my feet from freezing and I DEFINITELY run cold in the extremities…as Anner will happily attest!

No response yet, but hopefully they appreciate that they’ve got a fan here in the Northwest!
Anner is a smart wool fan herself. Both seem to make fine socks, I just liked my Darn Toughs made here in the US of A.
