A Selfie-A-Day…For Many, Many Days

Before we headed to the airport for the very first flight of our trip, we took a selfie. I thought it would be cool to have one of those movies at the end of the trip: a photo-a-day movie. Aaron immediately latched on to the idea and, being a bit on the compulsive side, he made sure we barely missed a day! Sometimes I’d be sound asleep when he’d nudge me awake saying, “We have to take the picture!” and all groggy I’d sit up, smile, and then be snoozing before my head the pillow again. 454 days on the road and I think we came home with 450 “PODs” (photos of the day).

Halfway through the trip Aaron asked me, eh hem…repeatedly, to make a demonstration video so we could see how our PODs were looking. I tried, honest I did, but the tablet couldn’t handle the number of photos. Afraid he’d just have to wait. He was pretty good with it. For awhile. About four minutes after landing in Seattle, though, Aaron asks when the movie will be ready and I’m all like “I just can’t think about that right now. Can we move home first?” It came up a few times and I just brushed him off.

Fast forward six months and, for his birthday, dreams came true! With the aid of my eight-year-old laptop running Windows XP (go ahead and laugh…it’s ridiculous…though still newer than Aaron iMac from 2006!), our POD movie has become reality! You should have seen the smile on his face when he watched for the very first time. Couldn’t have been happier! Hopefully you’ll enjoy it too. I think you’ll recognize the musical accompaniment.

Now, without further ado, click on the triangle below to join us on our 454 day journey…all in just over two and half minutes. (Or, if you can’t get the youtube video below to work due to their overseas rules, you can see it directly by clicking here – give it a minute as it might take a bit to download.) Enjoy!

PS – we’d love to know what you think. Leave a comment and make our day!

That was awesome! And I liked watching Aaron’s hair grow longer after an apparent haircut partway through 😉

It is funny seeing how many bad hair days a person can have over a year… and Anner wants you to know how much she appreciates you not mentioning how hers got grayer and grayer as things went along.

LOVE! Moved to fast for me to find the Cape Town picture but I did enjoy seeing that orange puffy jacket popping up. Enjoy remembering that I got to play a small part.

By golly, that would be at 1:28. You’ll see me with my backpack on and Anner in her black sweatshirt just before the photos of us in the airport. 🙂 And I LOVE my puffy coat!!! Mongolia would have been MUUUUUCH colder without your help!

We certainly did…though if you look really, really carefully you might see a day or two that were smile-free. Maybe. It was just such an astoundingly wonderful experience – thanks for joining us in following along!

Everyone else has already said it. All I can add are two thoughts. First, it was such fun to have shared a small part of your nomadic adventure. Second, your trip wouldn’t have been as much fun if you had worried about your hair! Love you both.

    Hi Anner,

I know you’ve been back for a while, but “Welcome Back!” This video is so great, what a fun way to document a 454 day journey. (Of course in addition to all your blog posts and beautiful pictures!)

Would love to get together sometime for coffee (or ice cream!). Ping me!!
